Hello, my name is Patty Queener! I graduated from Mount St. Joseph University, also known as The College of Mount St. Joseph, located in Cincinnati, Ohio. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in painting and ceramics, along with a minor in art history. I have had the privilege of learning under established artists such as Loyola Walter, Pam Korte, Jerry Bellas, Craig Lloyd, and the Korean artist Young Hi Lee.
My love for nature and painting was encouraged by Loyola Walter, who introduced me to Young Hi Lee. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for Sumi-e ink painting and the Japanese culture. In 2012, I had the opportunity to travel to Japan, visiting Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, and Tajimi, where I spent time in the studio with Ikuhiko Shibata, a seventh-generation potter.
Recently, my focus has shifted toward sketchbook work, specifically exploring plein-air painting with watercolor and ink drawings. I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and I lived in Northern Kentucky for 11 years. In July 2024, I moved to Nashville to be closer to my three beautiful grandchildren and my lovely daughter. I also have a wonderful son who is an airline pilot and resides in Cincinnati; he always encourages me to travel more!
When I am not teaching or working on my art, I enjoy spending time with my family, nurturing and strengthening my faith, attending church, volunteering when possible, reading, walking, being in nature, gardening, and visiting second-hand shops.
I have been fortunate to work with established artists and businesses. However, there is something especially rewarding about teaching. For the past three years, I have been teaching art to students ranging from PreK2 to 8th grade. I believe that creativity exists within everyone. The elements of art and principles of design are essential building blocks and provide a strong foundation for art. While these concepts and various techniques are important to understand, I strive to create a safe and comfortable environment that encourages personal expression and allows for growth in every student.
I look forward to sharing my passion for art and fostering a supportive atmosphere where conversations about their work are encouraged, and artistic connections can be made. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Children’s Art Classes community. I look forward to building relationships with the wonderful and talented students of Children’s Art Classes.
